ABOUT COWGIRL UP RODEO DRILL TEAM

The Cowgirl Up Rodeo Drill Team represents Spokane, WA.  This team was founded in January 2012 by Christine Rodko in Cody, WY.

Since its inception, this team has evolved to include many young ladies from the ages of 8 and up to the young at heart.  This team’s goal is to support, mentor and teach riders of all ages about the incredible art of Drill Team riding.

Drill Team riding is a sport for the love of horses and horsemanship. By mentoring and teaching new riders, the instruction is based on having fun, making friends, safety, horsemanship and working together as a cohesive group.

The Cowgirl Up Cowgirls perform at local rodeos, equine events, and participate in parades.

The Cowgirl Up Rodeo Drill Team wearing red, white and blue costumes carry American flags riding in honor of our service men and women of the United States military for their outstanding accomplishments, courage, and dedication to our country as well as our nation's veterans, POW's, and MIA's for the sacrifices they have made.

We are the land of the free because of the BRAVE!

We are mothers, daughters...we ARE the Cowgirl Up Cowgirls, and we put faith in God, our Country, and the amazing horses we ride!

Requirements:

  • You must be over 8 years of age. If younger than 18, you must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and a liability waiver will be signed.

  • You must have intermediate horsemanship skills. Drill is a dangerous environment. You must be able to think, react and ride one handed- all while controlling your horse. This is for your safety and ours.

  • An informal riding assessment will be made.

  • Riders must supply their own horse. Your horse needs to be physically able to handle the tough demands of drill. Rodeos are hot, the arena can be muddy, and practices are long.

  • Horses must be up to date on all immunizations and have proper hoof care.

  • Riders must provide their own transportation. When traveling we try to trailer together as much as possible to save gas, however for practice you need to be able to provide your own transportation.

Expectations:

This team, our rodeos, events, practices, fundraisers and meetings must be a priority for you. Dependability is a must. Practices, usually in the evening, can be anywhere from once a week to several times a week to prepare for an upcoming rodeo.

Uniforms:

The Cowgirl Up Rodeo Drill Team ride in custom uniforms and tack. The team will provide most of the required uniform and tack but a deposit is required.  Each member is responsible for its care and replacement if lost or damaged. As a new member paying the required deposit and purchasing any necessary additional uniform items and tack must be a priority.
